The 1850 Homestead

This beautifully recreated home is a three bedroom, two bathroom home with all of the modern amenities. The home sleeps up to six adults. Cozy up in front of the brick fireplace with a book and cozy blanket. Imagine visiting your grandmother’s farmhouse and being allowed to use the good china at every meal! Our cottagecore vibe, with layers of blankets and quilts on each bed allows for you to truly find a home away from home! The home is decorated with vintage and found items and we love to share our Big Chill oven and refrigerator with guests.

Wake up and go to your own chicken coop to gather farm fresh eggs or make arrangements for your kitchen to be stocked with fresh eggs, Fieldgate Farm sausage, and visit the kitchen garden to clip fresh herbs (in season). Yummy nibbles from local stores and farm markets stock a special picnic basket in the kitchen for your snacking needs from our ever rotating pantry of fresh kettle corn or Amish baked cookies or Indiana’s own Titus donuts. The basket can be used for you to pack your own picnic during your stay to visit our special outdoor entertainment area under our pergola constructed from the original hand hewn beams from the house that could not be used for the home’s reconstruction

 FAQs

  • The home is available with a 2-night minimum stay at $400/night. Check in is at 4 p.m. and check out is at 10 a.m.

  • The original owners of the home were Quaker homesteaders, who design and built our farmhouse. They were abolitionists and actively involved in the Underground Railroad. It is reported that the Rhodes Incident occurred in our historically accurate barn erected with the original hand hewn beams from the homestead’s original barn with historical and architectural accuracy which changed Indiana’s law for runaways. We offer an Underground Railroad quilt to explain how they served as a “map” to lead individuals to safety.

  • Wander Indiana! We share a list of places to visit, stores to shop, and unique hidden gems located in Northern Hamilton County for your enjoyment. Come experience small town living at its finest!

Games and books abound for your use while staying in the farmhouse! This is a perfect time to unplug from online gaming and social media. We do offer a smart TV for you to enter your own subscription service but we encourage you to unplug while at the farm.

We will leave yard games like corn hole and croquet for your use to truly leave the world behind while you enjoy farm life.

Our lovely westward facing porch with cozy rockers for you to enjoy Indiana sunsets as far as your eye can see. A fire pit with Adirondack chairs adds to your evening enjoyment and we include coffee, tea, and hot cocoa to have a warm drink by the fire. The stars at night truly sparkle without the glare of bright city lights.

  • Your furry family members are not able to join you due to the historic nature of the Homestead and that this is a working farm with chickens and sheep outside the door.
